How the 2% Discount Works
Portico Benefit Services separates ELCA employers into three groups:
- Synods (includes synod office, congregations, and other organizations within that synod's geographical area)
- Churchwide ministries (Lutheran Center offices, Portico Benefit Services, Augsburg Fortress)
In mid-January: We calculate the number of plan members and spouses with ELCA-Primary health benefits for each synod, seminary, and churchwide ministry.
At the end of January, February, March, and April: We identify what percentage of eligible plan members and spouses have taken the health assessment for each synod, seminary, and churchwide ministry. Then we update the 2015 Results tab around the 10th of each month.
Following April 30: We post final results on the 2015 Results tab.
How the 2% Discount Is Earned
ELCA employers, such as congregations, seminaries, and other organizations, can earn a 2% discount on the current year's ELCA health contributions if 65% or more of the ELCA-Primary health plan members and eligible spouses within a synod, seminary, or churchwide ministry take the online Mayo Clinic health assessment between Jan. 1 and April 30 of that year.
